Flexible borosilicate glass for Corning touchscreen displays
Touchscreen Displays

The US company Corning, Inc., based in Corning, New York, produces glass, ceramics and related materials for industrial and scientific applications. With 45% of the turnover coming from the production of glass for liquid crystal displays for notebooks and flat screens.

Corning's well-known products include Gorilla Glass and Willow Glass, which has been on the market since 2012. The latter is an extremely thin, flexible borosilicate glass, which can be used primarily for screens and touchscreen displays in the product area of smartphones, tablets and notebooks.

More than 7 times thinner smartphone displays

The special feature of the Willow Glass developed by Corning is that it comes with a thickness of 0.1 – 0.2 millimeters. This is about the thickness of a business card. According to the manufacturer, his developed product is heat-resistant up to 500°C, flexible, scratch-resistant and lightweight.

Flexible glass allows for large, flexible displays

Large, curved TV displays and monitors look not only elegant, but also impressive. They also provide a wider field of vision. The future applications of flexible glass are great and also pose new development challenges for manufacturers of touchscreen products. We are curious to see what else the market has to offer in this area.

Information about borosilicate glass
