Bitkom survey on digitization in the medical sector
Touch screen application medical field

While it used to be tedious to learn how to use the PC, today it is very easy with the help of touchscreen applications on tablet PCs and smartphones. Even for the older generation, dealing with a touchscreen application is no longer rocket science. This progress is also noticeable in the medical field. Touch applications are not only used for patient care, but also in the operating room and mobile consultations as well as for the care of chronically ill patients.

More and more applications and intelligent assistants are being used in healthcare. Digitization in the medical field can no longer be stopped and provides both the patient and the doctor with new opportunities and treatment options.

Bitkom survey among physicians

More and more offers and access to treatment support are available to patients and physicians in the health care market and standard care and must be specifically promoted for faster progress. But are they actually already being actively used by the planned target group? Recently, Bitkom Research conducted a survey of 477 physicians on behalf of the digital association Bitkom and the Hartmannbund. The focus was on the use of digital applications by doctors in hospitals and general practitioners.

The result shows that 7 out of 10 physicians already see digitization as a great opportunity for healthcare. 62 percent of respondents believe that digital technologies will improve prevention and one in three (34 percent) expect them to extend people's life expectancy. However, the survey also showed that too few (even simple) digital health services are currently being used.
