Many touch systems are sometimes exposed to strong sunlight and thus UV radiation. In order to ensure permanent and good readability, surfaces or protective filters should be chosen that are resistant to UV radiation.

Comparison of polyester and glass surfaces

Polyester surfaces

Polyester surfaces are extremely sensitive to UV radiation, which repeatedly leads to impairments, especially with conventional resistive touchscreens.

They can yellow or fade and, in the worst case, significantly disturb the appearance of the touchscreen for the user.

Surface

The GFG Glass Film Glass Touchscreens and PCAP Touchscreens from Interelectronix have a clear advantage.

Even the outer microglass layer effectively protects against UVA and UVB radiation, because glass is already a good UV filter due to the material and protects the underlying materials and films.

Accordingly, in case of weak or sporadic sunlight, no further UV filter is required for our touch panels with glass surface. In case of strong or permanent sunlight, it is also advisable to equip a glass surface with a suitable UV protection filter.

Increased UV protection through UV filters

If a touch system is permanently exposed to direct and intense sunlight, it makes sense to use an additional UV protection filter for both polyester and glass surfaces.

Above all, the UV protection filter blocks invisible ultraviolet light, which is particularly harmful to polyester surfaces and leads to rapid material degradation without UV protection filters.

In addition to the direct protection of the material, a UV protection filter also reduces the amount of incoming sun rays, which significantly reduces heat generation in the touch system.
