Continental at CES 2016
Touchscreen Product Highlights

The complexity of in-vehicle entertainment is rapidly increasing. Above all, automation and networking are very popular with drivers. That is why modern cars are equipped with more and more technical functions. To stand out from the competition and at the same time offer the driver an innovative, anticipatory driving experience.

CES Product Highlight

Continental is one of the world's leading automotive suppliers. At the last CES 2016 in Las Vegas, it presented several innovation and product highlights for the automotive industry. Among other things, its curved center console, which plays a pioneering role in interior design for the connected vehicle of the future.

Touch applications for the automotive industry

Continental's high-quality system combines two 12.3-inch AMOLED touch displays with active haptic feedback, pressure measurement and a time-of-flight sensor for gesture recognition. The haptic feedback of the touchscreens not only reduces driver distraction, but also increases driving safety.

Flexible bezel for global infotainment system

In addition, with a new approach to flexible interior design, Continental has achieved something that has previously posed a major challenge for many automakers. Continental has developed a 17-millimeter-thin, flexible trim without mechanical buttons for the infotainment system.

The bezel consists of a capacitive touch surface covered with an electroluminescent film. This replaces the traditional LEDs. With the help of special software, the driver can freely design the HMI (Human Machine Interface = user interface). The app ensures that only the controls that are desired by the driver are shown on the display.

Continental has the opportunity to test the various functions in elaborate laboratory tests. We are curious to see when the first prototype of these new devices will be available and which manufacturer will be the first to equip its models with them.
