HALT Test
Highly Accelerated Life Test

Product safety and durability of touch screens

In the course of the development of customer-specific touchscreens, Interelectronix uses the HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) and HASS (Stress Screening) stress test methods to test and optimize product safety and service life accordingly.

With the help of the HALT service life test, both technical weaknesses and design errors are detected at an early stage during the development of a touchscreen and eliminated by a suitable choice of materials and construction.

The HASS and HALT test is used to simulate normal, application-related aging and wear of a touchscreen in a rapid process. This test procedure takes only two to five days, creating an artificial aging process that reveals the weaknesses of a product.

##Ablauf of a HALT test For this test, the touch screen is placed on a vibrating table in a compressed air chamber.

The test usually begins with a cold stage test. Starting at 20° Celsius, the temperature is lowered in 10 Kelvin steps to the minimum temperature to be checked. This is done for about 10 minutes in each temperature setting.

In the next step, the touchscreen undergoes a similar heat level test and is then subjected to a temperature fluctuation test, jumping between the minimum and maximum temperatures.

Finally, the touch screen has to prove its vibration resistance in 5 Grms steps.

A combined stress test at the end of the test run again generates maximum stress due to the superimposition of the individual loads.

Guaranteed durability under extreme conditions

Not only special solutions but also our standard touchscreens are subjected to a HALT test.

"Since we attach great importance to a robust design of the panel, only very hard glass surfaces are used in both the patented resistive technology and our projected capacitive models, which means that very good HALT test results are achieved for both technologies."
