EMC testing for every touchscreen

The touchscreens from Interelectronix are characterized by particularly good electromagnetic compatibility. In EMC tests, our patented GFG ULTRA touchscreen performs particularly well.

In order to guarantee electromagnetic compatibility in accordance with applicable standards, Interelectronix subjects each touchscreen to EMC tests.

Immunity and Emission Testing

In the tests, the immunity of the touchscreen to radiation in the immediate vicinity is first investigated.

Furthermore, measurements are used to determine whether and to what extent the touchscreens themselves emit interference radiation. These tests are important to ensure trouble-free operation and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

"If the shielding is poor, interference radiation can not only affect other devices, but also lead to the failure of one's own electronics and is therefore a double risk factor." Christian Kühn, Touchscreen Expert

Legal requirements and standards

In general, EMC for electrical devices is regulated by law in Germany. At the European level, Directive 2004/108/EC must be followed in order to be assigned the appropriate CE marking.

However, many industries have even stricter standards that require industry-specific EMC testing. For example, higher requirements apply to industrial and automotive technology than to consumer applications, where, for example, POS or POI are used.

Military and medical technology is particularly critical, where tests for the best EMC compatibility values are unavoidable. In these sensitive areas, interference radiation can cause particularly harmful effects on the surrounding electronics.

Highest electromagnetic compatibility of the ULTRA GFG

Interelectronix attaches great importance to high-quality RF shielding and uses ITO mesh coatings for particularly critical applications. This coating guarantees the highest possible shielding and leads to the best EMC values.

Our patented ULTRA touchscreens with ITO mesh refinement perform above average in EMC tests and are ideally suited for military reconnaissance technology.

In the course of a prototype qualification, we carry out industry-specific EMC tests if required to guarantee the conformity of the touchscreen with the applicable standards.

We offer four different types of EMC tests:

  • Galvanically coupled tests: measurement of interference on connecting cables; necessary for CE marking
  • Capacitively coupled tests: Interference signal is injected to measure the shielding
  • Inductively coupled tests: Functionality measurement despite RF current
  • Radiation-coupled tests: Measurement of effects of electromagnetic fields in ambient space
