7 common touchscreen technologies

Depending on what a touchscreen is needed for, it should be considered which of the 7 common variants is best suited.

Choosing the right technology for a touchscreen is not easy, because different modes of operation bring different advantages of touch detection and vulnerabilities.

Functionality and properties

  • Resistive touchscreens in 4-, 5- or 8-wire design with pressure-based touch detection can be operated universally.
  • Capacitive touchscreens are very user-friendly because no pressure is required. Gloves cannot be used for input.
  • The resistive ULTRA GFG touchscreen from Interelectronix offers several advantages over classic resistive touchscreens thanks to the robust glass film glass construction.
  • Interelectronix surface-capacitive touchscreens offer high response speed and sensitive, but not universal, touch detection.
  • With the Surface Accoustic Wave - SAW technology, also known as Surface Acoustic Wave Technology, very robust touchscreens can be manufactured. However, unintentional touches are poorly filtered.
  • Infrared IR touchscreens from Interelectronix can even be equipped with bulletproof glass to provide optimal security. The high risk of incorrect activation of the highly sensitive technology, on the other hand, is a shortcoming.
  • Projected capacitive PCAP Touches enable gesture recognition thanks to Multi Touch and impress with their robustness and precision.
  • The right technology for every need

In the specification phase of your order, our technicians will work with you to find the best and most cost-effective technology variant for your individual requirements.

    Touchscreen technologies in direct comparison

Interelectronix is the global market leader for GFG touchscreens (Glass Film Glass). But our projected capacitive touchscreens called PCAP are also characterized by high resistance, reliability and ease of use.
